How It Works

The Scheibner Laser System

The Scheibner laser alignment system we use is one of the most advanced frame measuring systems for motorcycles. It uses a sophisticated array of cameras and lasers to measure specific points on the frame, swingarm and subframe to establish the trueness of the frame.

These measurements are independent of the front end — so even if the forks were damaged during a fall, the integrity of the chassis can still be accurately ascertained. Our frame database has thousands of models and is updated continually as newer models appear.

When You Need It

Three Reasons to Get Checked

01

After an Accident

After a crash, there is always the question of whether the frame and swingarm are still within specifications. Have it measured before repair — it will be very difficult to prove damage after you've taken delivery of a "repaired" vehicle.

  • Establishes pre-repair baseline for insurance
  • Identifies hidden structural damage
  • Required for VIV repairable write-off process

02

Buying a Used Bike

We are able to check that used motorcycle before you part with any of your hard-earned cash on what may very well be a bent bike. A frame check is the smartest pre-purchase inspection you can make.

  • Confirms the frame is straight and safe
  • Identifies undisclosed crash history
  • Certificate gives you negotiating power

03

Selling or Insuring

A Scheibner Chassis Certificate adds credibility when selling, and is required documentation for repairable write-off VIV inspections. We can assist you with navigating the entire VIV process.

  • Accepted by insurers and VIV inspectors
  • Adds value and trust when selling
  • Full VIV navigation assistance available

REPAIRABLE WRITE-OFFS & VIV REQUIREMENTS

There are strict statutory requirements when dealing with a repairable write-off in Victoria. The VIV regulations require that any vehicle where impact damage was assessed must have a structural and body measurement report before it can be re-registered.

"For any vehicle where impact damage was assessed, the inspector will require that you supply a structural and body measurement report, detailing the actual vehicle measurement, and a copy of the manufacturer's specifications for comparison."

— VIV Regulations, Victoria

We provide exactly this documentation with every Scheibner chassis check — a detailed report of actual measurements taken, compared against factory specifications. We are also able to assist you with navigating the full VIV process.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Everything riders and buyers ask about frame alignment checks and the Scheibner system.

The Scheibner system measures specific points across the frame, swingarm and subframe — including steering head angle, frame lateral offset, swingarm pivot alignment, subframe symmetry and overall wheelbase. Each measurement is compared against the factory specification for your exact model.

Yes. Frame stress from a crash doesn't always produce visible bending. A frame can be pushed out of specification at key measurement points without any visible deformation — particularly at the steering head and swingarm pivot. The only way to confirm is measurement.

A typical Scheibner frame alignment check takes approximately one to two hours depending on the complexity of the motorcycle. We'll advise a more accurate timeframe when you book.

Yes — this is one of the key advantages of the Scheibner system. All measurements are independent of the front end. Even with bent forks or a damaged steering head, the structural integrity of the chassis itself can still be accurately assessed.

The Scheibner Chassis Certificate is accepted documentation for insurance assessments, VIV inspections for repairable write-offs, and private sale disclosures. It provides a legally recognised record of your motorcycle's chassis condition at the time of inspection.

Yes. VIV regulations in Victoria require a structural and body measurement report for any vehicle where impact damage was assessed. This must detail actual measurements and compare them against manufacturer specifications — which is exactly what our Scheibner report provides.

Depending on the extent of misalignment, correction or repair may be possible. We will discuss the options with you after the check and advise on the best course of action. In some cases the bike may need to be assessed further by a structural engineer.
